Hit & Run
1400 W. 400 S.
A blue or turquoise Dodge Caliber struck a 68-year-old female. She was crossing 400 South in the crosswalk in front of Sherwood Park. The suspect’s vehicle was last seen northbound on Redwood Road. The victim was listed in serious but stable condition.
250 S. Main St. (Trax Platform)
Anthony Mayhew (8/7/73) was making threatening statements about having a bomb in his backpack. He was holding some type of switch in his hand with wires leading into the backpack. Officers began negotiating with him to put the backpack down. At about 10:50 p.m. Mayhew stopped talking with officers. Approximately five minutes later, he started walking toward officers, who commanded him several times to stop. Fearing for their lives and given the credible threat of an explosive device, an officer fired one shot, striking the suspect. He died shortly thereafter. The officer has been placed on administrative leave per policy in an officer-involved shooting investigation.
Auto Bicycle Accident
200 S. 300 W.
A motorist was driving northbound on 300 West on a green light. An unidentified man on a bicycle was westbound on 200 South. The cyclist rode past several cars that were stopped for the red light at 300 West. The cyclist entered the intersection against the red light and was struck by the motorist. The cyclist was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.
