Battery, Disturbing the Peace
601 E. 1300 S. (Liberty Park)
A man approached a 9-year-old girl and forcibly grabbed her by the arm. The child began screaming and attempted to pull away, breaking free as the suspect began to run away. Park employees intervened and detained the suspect as officers arrived. Douglas Groeger (1/21/77) was booked for Battery and Disturbing the Peace. Investigation is ongoing.
Hit & Run
600 E. 2100 S.
A vehicle collided into another vehicle, causing a rollover. The driver who caused the accident continued driving a short distance then exited the vehicle and fled on foot. With the help of a K9 unit, officers captured the subject a short time later and booked Stephen Johnson (2/8/82) for DUI and numerous other charges related to the incident. The driver of the other vehicle was transported to a local hospital in serious condition. Investigators are trying to determine if Johnson was involved in other traffic incidents in the area.
