SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department’s annual “Race Against Violence” starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, October 19, 2013, at Popperton Park, 11th Avenue and Virginia Street.

In addition to a 5K for individuals and teams, this year’s event also will include a 1-mile dash, a Chase-the-Chief Kids’ Run, police demonstrations, a Zumba class, and face painting.

Proceeds benefit the Salt Lake City Police Foundation, which works to improve the community through youth programs and other outreach efforts, and the YWCA of Salt Lake City.

Online pre-registrations accepted through 5 p.m. this evening. Check-in and day-of registration starts at 8 a.m. Saturday.
