SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department has arrested a male believed to be responsible for the murder of 33-year-old Joaquin Gonzalez.

At approximately 1:20 a.m., Gonzalez and a female friend had returned to their vehicle after attending a movie. They got into the vehicle at 515 W. 100 S. and were approached in an aggressive manner by Harlin Argelio Ramos (10/27/83). Gonzalez was taken by surprise and a physical altercation occurred between the two men. During the altercation Gonzalez was stabbed by Ramos and died from his injuries.

Information was obtained rather quickly which led detectives to a local motel where Ramos was taken into custody.

As reported immediately following the homicide this morning, there was another male with Ramos. After further investigation, it is not believed that the 2nd male was involved in the stabbing of Joaquin Gonzalez, and is neither a suspect nor person of interest at this time.

Ramos has been booked into the Salt Lake County jail on first degree murder.
