Man with a Gun

Officers were flagged over by a citizen who reported a man riding a bicycle with a gun in his waist band. Officers observed the A/P, Juan Pena Florez, (7/24/89), in the area and did a high hazard stop at this location. Florez’s behavior and evasive answers led to him being taken into custody. A 9mm Beretta was in Florez’s waistband and a loaded magazine was in his pocket. Florez was booked for restricted person in possession of a weapon. Additionally, ICE reports Mr. Florez has been deported 6 previous times.

While in the area of 3rd Ave and L Street, Officers noticed the dome light on in a parked vehicle and several people around it. The officers circled the block and when they returned to the area, two people fled on foot into the block. Containment was set up and officers, with the assistance of K-9, tracked through the block and located them “sleeping” in a yard. Samantha Cowdell, (7/3/93) and Braxton Sainsbury, (5/3/94) were detained. Officers returned to the area the suspects fled from and located several vehicles that had been prowled. Both were booked into jail for vehicle burglary and fleeing on foot.
