Exploitation of an elderly adult
1025 N. 900 W.
On September 13, 2014, a male later identified as Ani Palau (7/14/72), performed unwanted yard work for elderly female (75) and then intimidated her into paying him a portion of the money he demanded for the unwanted work. The incident was documented, but no arrests were made. Ani returned on October 10, 2014 for the remainder of his money but quickly left when police were called. Officers located Ani and booked him into jail for exploitation of an elderly or vulnerable adult. Ani has an extensive history of doing this to other elderly people in the city.
909 E. 2100 S.
A male suspect entered the store and made his way to the pharmacy. He handed the pharmacist a note demanding oxycontin or he would start shooting in thirty seconds. Once he got the drugs the male asked for the note back and left the store in an unknown direction. The suspect was described as a male black adult, 18 to 22 years old, 5 feet 9 inches and was wearing a gray hoodie, jeans, gloves and a medical mask.
49 E. 900 S.
A Utah Highway Patrol trooper was in the intersection of 900 S State Street and observed a shooting occur in the parking lot just east of the California Club. A male victim was located by the trooper with a gunshot wound to his head. Witnesses on scene stated that “C-boy” shot the victim. Officers from multiple agencies responded and located Alejandro GIRON (12/07/90) in the area. The victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. GIRON was booked into the Salt Lake Metro Jail for numerous charges.
1006 S. 800 W.
During the search for the suspect in the shooting at the California Club, officers observed a black sedan fleeing the area that had been matched the description of a possible suspect in the shooting. Officers caught up to the vehicle, learned that it was stolen and conducted a high hazard stop. Two people were arrested: Driver Sione Moa (02/03/78) and passenger Austin Shockley (05/24/95) were booked into jail for possession of the stolen car, and warrants.
