7:41 p.m. Carjacking
700 E. South Temple St.
A man was seen driving in the area of the University of Utah where he had struck several garbage cans, was driving on lawns and hitting trees. The man’s vehicle eventually caught fire at South Temple St. and 700 E. Witnesses observed the male run over to 100 S. 700 E. where he attempted to get into an occupied vehicle. The occupants of the vehicle pushed the suspect from the vehicle and kept him from getting in. Witnesses assisted and detained the suspect until police arrived and took him into custody. Police booked Joe Dixon, 42, into jail for DUI, carjacking, hit and run, criminal mischief, paraphernalia and reckless driving.
