2021 S Main St.
The suspect, John Rafal (39) waited until the Wells Fargo at the listed address was clear of customers before robbing it at gun point. Officers were in the area quickly and located the suspect in the road. One officer exited his car drawing his sidearm as Rafal moved his hand to his right hip and gripped the butt of his gun. Rafal quickly put his hands up as a second officer was quick to arrive on scene. Rafal was taken into custody without further incident. Detectives responded to the scene and Rafal was booked into jail for aggravated robbery, possession of a stolen firearm, and possession of a firearm by a restricted person
Occupied stolen vehicle
400 S. 200 W.
Officers spotted a stolen vehicle driving South on 500 west. The van had been reported stolen earlier in the day. A felony stop was initiated at the listed address. The Driver, Joseph Johnson (35) was positively identified by the victim and was booked for auto theft.
Auto train accident
900 S. 600 W.
A vehicle traveling West on 900 South drove around the crossing arms and was struck by a Front Runner train. The train struck the front passenger portion of the vehicle and pushed it approximately 100 feet down the tracks line. A 30 year old female was transported to the hospital where she later died from her injuries. The investigation in on-going.
Shooting / Liberty Park
Towards the end of the fireworks show at Liberty Park, an unidentified male shot a male victim, once in the leg. The victim did not see who shot him but after the shooting several individuals were seen running in different directions inside the park. Officers located several juveniles running from the scene and they were taken to the police station for questioning. Medical cleared the shooting victim and he had a friend transport him to the hospital with minor injuries. Detectives are actively working this investigation.
