996 S. Redwood Road
A male self-transported to a local hospital with gunshot wounds to his lower body. Officers were dispatched to the hospital to question him. He stated he was at the African Market with a crowd when shots were fired and he ran from the scene. Officers responded to the African Market and found a probable scene with two shell casings. Robbery detectives and organized crime responded to assist. Investigation ongoing.
300 N. State Street
A protest began up at the State Capitol with 20 protestors lying in the street blocking traffic. Highway Patrol began blocking the streets and SLCPD responded. The protesters then walked south down State Street to the City and County Building where they dispersed. Motor officers and Patrol facilitated traffic control.
2946 S. 1100 E.
Dispatch received numerous calls of shots fired at this address. Witnesses saw Matthew Curtis standing in the living room holding a gun after the shots were fired. When Officers arrived, phone contact was stablished with Curtis. Curtis agreed to come outside where he was taken safely into custody. A search warrant was obtained. 2 shotguns, 4 Guns and 5 spent casings were seized. A total of 4 bullet holes were located inside the home. Curtis was booked into jail for public intoxication and discharge of a firearm.
1680 S. Redwood Road
A male Polynesian in his early 20s possibly 5’9, heavy set with a blue hoody, dark shorts, mustache came in the store and asked to use the restroom. After using the restroom, the suspect approached the counter and asked the cashier for cigarettes. While the clerk was ringing him up, the suspect pulled out a weapon. He stated he was taking the cigarettes and a case of beer. After taking the merchandise, the suspect left the store getting into a silver vehicle and left in an unknown direction.
