A suspect came into the Del Taco and demanded money while pointing a knife at the employees. The employees retreated to the back of the business and the suspect left empty-handed. The suspect was described as a white transient male, mid 20s, wearing a purple beanie, a peach-colored short-sleeve shirt with a blue hoodie underneath.

Members of the Violent Felony Apprehension Strick Team, VFAST, were looking for a suspect in the city. Contact was made with the suspect and a K9 was deployed. The suspect shot the K9 and members of VFAST responded by shooting the suspect. OICI protocol was initiated by the Salt Lake Police led team. Salt Lake officers also assisted in holding the scene of the shooting.
