Compiled by Watch Commanders in the field, the Watch Log is a summary of events that stand out to them in a given 24-hour period. Occupied Stolen Vehicle/Carjacking
550 N. 1400 W.
Officers observed a stolen vehicle in the area. They attempted to stop the vehicle however the driver refused to stop, instead driving in circles in the area. Officers did not pursue and eventually lost sight of the vehicle. A short time later the vehicle again drove by, but this time fled at a high rate of speed. Officers again did not pursue, but a short time later came across the vehicle which had crashed. The driver had fled from that crash and forcibly removed a victim from his vehicle. The victim attempted to get his car back at which time the suspect crashed. Witnesses helped detain the suspect until officers arrived. The suspect refused to comply with commands and would not give officers his hands, but he was eventually taken into custody. Billy Takai, 30, was booked into jail for carjacking, theft, fleeing, interfering with an arresting officer, failure to remain at the scene of an injury accident and possession of drug paraphernalia.
