Compiled by Watch Commanders in the field, the Watch Log is a summary of events that stand out to them in a given 24-hour period. 800 W. North Temple St.
The suspect entered a car dealership in South Salt Lake and requested to take a Subaru for a test drive. The suspect and a salesman left the dealership in the vehicle with the suspect driving. After some time, the salesman told the suspect they needed to return to the dealership, but the suspect refused and began to drive recklessly throughout Salt Lake. The salesman could not exit the vehicle and the suspect would not let him out. The salesman was able to call 911 and the vehicle was eventually located and stopped by the Utah Highway Patrol. Caleb Gibson, 42, was booked into jail for kidnapping.
824 W. North Temple St.
The victim was involved in an altercation with a group of people and was struck in the head with an unknown object. He was transported to an area hospital in stable condition with a head wound. There is no suspect information at this time.
500 South Delong St.
Dispatch received several calls of shots fired. Officers located spent shell casings in the street. No injuries or property damage were reported.
1085 South Roberta St.
Officers we were dispatched on a call of shots fired. Officers found a bullet had struck a house in the area. The bullet passed through the house causing damage, but no one was injured. Officers located casings near Liberty Elementary school. The investigation is ongoing.
