Health Department Abatement-Protest
731 S. 400 E.
Officers assisted with safety and security for the Health Department as they conducted an abatement operation near the area of Topher Park. Several small encampments were cleaned up. Officers and Health Department workers encountered a protest group of approximately 20-25 people at 731 S. 400 E. Three arrests were made during the incident. Maura Sanchez,.35, was arrested for interference with a public servant as was Matthew Monahan, 27. Marvin Oliveros, 39, was arrested for interference with a public servant, and assault on a police officer.
700 E. 400 S.
The victim and a friend were crossing 700 E. at 400 S, against the green light. A vehicle headed south with the green light struck the victim. Medical responded and transported the victim to an area hospital in critical condition.
200 S. 1500 W.
Officers responded to a report of shots fired. Officers located multiple empty casings on the street. Officers were unable to locate any victims or damaged property.
7263 S. Catalpa St.
Gang Detectives developed credible intel that, a known gang member, Gerardo Cansino, a parole fugitive wanted in connection with an aggravated robbery was staying at a Motel 6 in Midvale. Detectives were able to determine the room Cansino was in and began conducting surveillance. Cansino and his girlfriend were seen exiting the room and walked into an adjacent parking lot. Detectives followed and challenged Cansino who was noncompliant and a taser was deployed to take Cansino into custody. Detectives conducted a search of the room Cansino was seen exiting and located a handgun, 1.25 lbs heroin, .5 oz marijuana and 26 oxycodone pills. Gerardo Cansino, 29, was booked into jail for multiple felony charges.
