Compiled by Watch Commanders in the field, the Watch Log is a summary of events that stand out to them in a given 24-hour period. 1300 W. North Temple St.
A passerby found a body in the Jordan River. SLC Fire assisted in removing the male from the river. Investigation is ongoing.
350 W. 200 S.
Officers observed a male they knew had warrants driving a vehicle. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, as they walked towards the vehicle the passenger kept reaching into the vehicle and his pockets despite being told not to. Officers physically removed the passenger from the vehicle, then located a firearm in the vehicle where he had been sitting. Mitchell Zavala, 27, was booked into jail for possession of a firearm by a restricted person and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. The driver, Jeffrey Candelaria, 63, was booked into jail for outstanding warrants.
1255 W. Clark Ave.
Officers responded to reports of two groups of juveniles shooting at each other. Officers arrived and found shell casings, but no injuries or damage. A group of juveniles were stopped as they left the area and one of them was in possession of a stolen firearm. That juvenile was booked into detention.
Occupied Stolen Vehicle
1245 S. 900 W.
Officers saw a vehicle enter the parking lot and realized it which matched one that had been reported stolen. The occupants went into the store allowing officers to verify the vehicle was in fact stolen. Officers entered the store and took Ana Taufa, 29, into custody. Taufa was booked into jail for felony theft and outstanding warrants.
1300 S. 300 W.
A male walked up to a business and employees realized he had been shot in the legs. The victim could not provide details on what occurred, and no scene has been located. The victim was treated at a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
