SLCPD Arrest Suspect in Aggravated Burglary, Shooting Investigation

SALT LAKE CITY — Detectives with the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Robbery Squad have arrested a 20-year-old in connection to a home invasion shooting.

This investigation started on January 19, 2022 when SLCPD patrol officers responded to reports of a shooting at an apartment complex located at 764 North 900 West. Officers arrived on scene and located a 24-year-old man shot in the upper leg. Paramedics took the victim to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

During the investigation, police learned that at least two suspects, identified as males, kicked in the apartment unit’s door and that one of the suspects shot the victim while standing in the doorway.

Detectives with the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Robbery Squad immediately began conducting investigative follow-up on the shooting, which included seeking a court-authorized warrant. During the investigation, detectives confirmed the identity of one of the involved suspects.

On January 31, 2022, detectives booked Charles Wight into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on one count of Aggravated Burglary and one count of Aggravated Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury.

Detectives continue to follow-up on this case and are requesting that anyone with information on the identities or whereabouts of the other suspects call 801-799-3000 and reference case number 22-10924.

No additional information on this case is being released at this time.
