SLCPD Announces Suspect Arrested in Blaire Leavitt Homicide

SALT LAKE CITY — Today, the Salt Lake City Police Department announced authorities with the Maui Police Department arrested 26-year-old Katoa Pahulu, who is charged in connection to the homicide of 27-year-old Blaire Leavitt.

On Friday, March 18, 2022, the Maui Police Department notified detectives assigned to the SLCPD’s Homicide Squad that Pahulu turned himself in on an outstanding warrant related to the homicide of Ms. Leavitt.

This investigation started at 7:41 a.m. on July 27, 2019, when Salt Lake City Police responded to a residence near 1200 North Redwood Road. Officers arrived and located Ms. Leavitt with a gunshot wound. Paramedics immediately transported Ms. Leavitt to the hospital for emergency surgery but unfortunately, she died at the hospital.

On February 15, 2022, the SLCPD identified six suspects connected to the homicide of Ms. Leavitt and/or the obstruction of justice that resulted following her death.

Pahulu is pending extradition hearings in Hawaii.

The arrest warrant in this case is sealed. As such, the SLCPD is unable to release any details about the charge or any other details about his alleged involvement in the homicide of Ms. Leavitt.

No further information on this case is being released. Neither the PIO nor the On-Duty Watch Commander are available for interviews.

Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
