SLCPD Investigating Deadly Shooting, 1 Dead, 3 Others Injured

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department’s Homicide Squad is investigating a fight that led to multiple people being shot.

One person died on scene.

This investigation started at 7:08 p.m. on Monday June 6, 2022 when SLC911 received multiple reports of a shooting at 1636 West Briar Rose Place.

As officers responded to the scene, SLC911 received additional 9-1-1 calls about multiple victims.

Officers arrived on scene and found one person with a gunshot wound inside an apartment unit. Officers performed immediate life-saving efforts, but the man died on scene.

Three other people injured during this incident are at area hospitals.

One of the three people has non-life threatening injuries. That person was not shot. Detectives believe the person was physically assaulted inside the apartment unit.

The second person at the hospital has serious injuries resulting from a gunshot injury.

The third person at the hospital has critical injuries resulting from a gunshot injury.

No information about the people at the hospitals, including their names or ages can be released at this time.

Based on the preliminary information, detectives believe there were several people, likely known to each other, inside one of the apartment units when a fight broke out, which resulted in the shooting. Initially, there was information suggesting this may have been a home invasion. At this time, that does not appear to be the case. This does not appear to be a random incident.

After the shooting, officers think several people left in two separate cars. One car was located at 1150 South Redwood Road, the other at 60 South Redwood. Both of those cars have been secured as evidence.

At this point, no arrests have been made. Detectives are in the early stages of trying to determine what led up to the shooting and who was involved.

One officer was injured while performing life-saving efforts inside the apartment unit. The officer received medical treatment on scene and at an area hospital.

The SLCPD Homicide Squad will work with the medical examiner’s office to confirm the man’s name, age, cause of death and to notify next-of-kin.

This is the sixth homicide in Salt Lake City for 2022.

An SLCPD tracking K-9 Unit responded to the scene to assist patrol officers looking for any additional victims and evidence.

Anyone who has information about this case should call 801-799-3000 and reference case number 22-106677.

SLCPD Crime Lab Technicians responded to the scene to process and collect evidence on scene.

A SLCPD PIO responded to the scene and provided community members and media updates.

Several photos from the scene have been released on the SLCPD Twitter account.

No additional information is available for release and there are no future media briefings scheduled at this time.

All other updates or press briefings will be provided via the department’s Twitter account or press release.
