The public can comment by calling, attending a public hearing, or writing to assessors.

A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc.
(CALEA®) will arrive December 9, 2019 to examine all aspects of the Salt Lake City Police Department
policy and procedures, management, operations, and support services.

Verification by the team that the Salt Lake City Police Department meets the Commission’s state-of the
art standards is part of a voluntary process to gain accreditation, a highly prized recognition of public
safety professional excellence. The Salt Lake City Police Department must comply with all applicable
CALEA Standards in order to gain accredited status. The CALEA standards can be found on-line at: http://

The assessment team is composed of law enforcement practitioners from out-of-state agencies. The
accessors will review written materials, interview individuals, observe activities, and interact with agency
representatives in order to verify compliance with each of the standards. To obtain a copy of the
standards, contact the Salt Lake City Police Department Accreditation Manager, Sergeant Mason Givens
at 801-799-3014.

As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer
comments to the CALEA assessment team. Comments will be limited to three (3) minutes in length and
must address the Salt Lake City Police Department ability to comply with CALEA’ s standards.
