C. Scott Atkinson

   

Chief Scott Atkinson began his career with the Salt Lake City Police Department in 1978. He has gained tremendous experience in working many different assignments. He began in Patrol, but has also been assigned to Traffic investigations, Motorcycle patrol, Vice and Follow-up Investigations. When he was promoted to Sergeant, he worked as the Chief's Executive Officer, moved to Narcotics and then worked as the Public Information Officer for the Department. As a Lieutenant he was assigned as the Director of the Salt Lake Area Gang Project, SWAT Team Commander, and Training Unit Commander. As a Captain, he directed Training, Community Support, Olympic Security and Management Services. As an Assistant Chief, he has commanded the Administrative Bureau, the Operations Bureau and the Investigative Bureau. He now commands the Department's Administrative Bureau.

Chief Atkinson currently serves on the Salt Lake City Transportation Advisory Board and the Salt Lake Kiwanis Advisory Board. He has previously served as the President of the Salt Lake City Police Captains, Lieutenants and Sergeants Association Boards. Chief Atkinson also served on Task Forces for the Utah Governor and Salt Lake City Mayor.

Chief Atkinson attended the University of Utah and Salt Lake Community College. He has completed many additional courses in Police related subjects and is a certified instructor for the Utah State Peace Officer Standards & Training (POST).
