Assistant Chief Terry A. Fritz began his law enforcement career in 1986. He began working with the Salt Lake City Police Department soon after and has gained his experience by working several different assignments within the organization.

Upon joining the Department, he worked patrol for several years before transferring to the Detective Division and working a Larceny assignment. He then spent four years as a School Resource officer assigned to East High School. After leaving the school resource program, he joined the Metro Gang Unit as an investigator and was promoted to Sergeant from this assignment. As a Sergeant, Chief Fritz worked patrol, detectives (burglary) and ultimately moved into the Olympic Planning detail. He was teamed with a number of officers and command staff for the planning of the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympic Games. After the Olympic Games, he was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned as a Watch Commander, Assistant Pioneer Patrol Division Commander and finally to Homeland Security Commander.

As a Captain, Terry has directed the Liberty Patrol and Management Services Divisions. Once promoted to Assistant Chief, Terry began directing the Support Services Bureau. He now commands the Operations Bureau which includes Pioneer Patrol Division, Liberty Patrol Division and Special Operations Division.

Assistant Chief Fritz obtained his Bachelor Degree while playing baseball for Eastern Oregon University in 1986. Terry is a graduate of the West Point Leadership academy and has served on numerous interagency committees to improve the quality of service provided by the Salt Lake City Police Department.
