If your request is approved, the following stipulations typically apply:

  1. The barricading of the street must be coordinated with the Department of Transportation, 349 South 200 East, Room 450 (801-535-6630), to which the $27.50 Block Party Permit fee is payable. You will have to obtain the barricades and any signs that may be required by the Department of Transportation from a private vendor. Barricade companies may be found in the Yellow Pages.
  2. An entrance and exit must be kept available for those residents who do not wish to participate in the party and for emergency vehicles should they be required. The Fire Department requires a 20-foot right-of-way for their equipment. This area will still be barricaded and used by pedestrians or easily movable items.
  3. You may NOT close any part of any intersection.
  4. It is suggested you contact every resident or business directly affected by the event to gain their support prior to the date of your activity.
  5. Please keep in mind that this petition allows you to block the street for the time specified and does not void or diminish any other law or ordinance. You will still be held to the sound ordinance standards. If you are directed by police officers to turn down or turn off music or any noise, you must do so. A block party permit is NOT a permit for amplified music.
  6. You must agree to cleanup any litter or other refuse left as a result of the party, leaving the area at least as clean as you found it.
  7. Please be aware that Salt Lake City Ordinance 11.12.065 states it is "Unlawful to Have Open Containers of Alcohol in Designated Areas. No person shall open, possess, or consume from an open bottle, can or other receptacle containing an alcoholic beverage in an un-permitted public place." This applies to the street or sidewalks.
