Citizen of the Month

May 2009
Russ Hemmert

Russ Hemmert works in the Salt Lake City Engineering Division and has produced maps for the Police Department since at least the 2002 Olympics. His most recent offering was an "at-a-glance" map book of the city for all Sergeants and Lieutenants working in the field.

The map book contains 10 color-coded sections, plus aerial photographs and maps of area schools, including the University of Utah. All of these map books were produced at no cost to the Police Department and were completed within one week of their request. These maps have proven to be invaluable in field situations requiring a bird's-eye-view of an area where access to a Mobile Data Terminal is unavailable.

Mr. Hemmert has a history of being responsive to the needs of the Police Department. He has worked tirelessly with Sgt. Morgan Sayes to produce maps that include Salt Lake City schools and tactical locations in the event of an emergency incident on school property. For his willingness to recognize the need for his services as they relate to public safety, Russ Hemmert is awarded Citizen of the Month for May 2009.
