Sgt. Andrew J. Jackson
January 21, 2009
Promoted to Sergeant by Chief Chris Burbank on January 21, 2009
Years with SLCPD: Almost 14 years (next month) with the Department.
Assignments to date: Liberty Patrol, Pioneer Patrol, Street Drug Interdiction/COP, Gang Suppression, Solo Motorcycle Squad, Gang Investigations, and Community Intelligence Unit. I have also been on the SWAT team for over 11 years.
Awards and recognition: The Distinguished Service Medal; I have been part of the Chiefs unit of the year two times; as a Gang Investigator I received the Utah Gang Investigators Associations Unit of the Year award together with my unit; Meritorious Unit Citation (Gangs).
Why I wanted to be a Police Officer: I wanted to be a Police Officer ever since I was a kid. It was set in stone for me when I was 12 years old. My brother and I were in a canoe on the pond at Liberty Park. As we were in the canoe, a man was being chased by a Salt Lake City Police Officer. They both jumped in the water right next to us where the male was handcuffed and taken away. I later learned that the male had just committed a robbery before being chased. I thought that was the coolest thing I had ever seen and it made me want to not only be a cop, but to only be one for Salt Lake City.
Role models: My Dad.
Favorite Quote: My favorite quote is by Edmund Burke: "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing."
Super Bowl XLIII Prediction: I don't have a Super Bowl pick because I don't watch a lot of football. I would, however, like to see the Los Angeles Dodgers win the World Series in 2009.
