SLCPD Releases Photos of Suspect in Purse Snatching

SALT LAKE CITY—Seeking public input, the Salt Lake City Police Department today released surveillance photos of a strong-arm robbery suspect.

At approximately 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, an elderly couple had just returned to their home in the area of 2300 E. 1300 S. and parked their car in their garage. A man came up behind the 86-year-old female victim and grabbed her purse out of her hand.

The male suspect then fled eastbound, getting into a red Jeep or SUV-type vehicle and drove away. Within minutes, the suspect used a credit card from the victim’s purse at a nearby gas station. Video surveillance images show the suspect to be a male white adult, possibly in his 40s, wearing a tan shirt or jacket and driving a red Jeep Cherokee.

The Police Department asks anyone who knows the identity or location of the suspect to call (801) 799-3000. Callers may remain anonymous. Please reference case #10-129940.
