Meth and Drug Initiative


Established in 1998, this community oriented policing partnership includes over 30 community stakeholders who focus on changes in policy, procedure, practice, ordinances and laws to better address methamphetamine problems in our community. The mission of the Salt Lake City Methamphetamine Initiative is to provide, through an interagency collaboration, a system-wide approach to alleviate dangerous drug problems in our community.

Law Enforcement & Prosecution Subcommittee

The purpose of the Law Enforcement & Prosecution Subcommittee is to enhance efforts to curtail illicit drug production, distribution, and use.  The committee focuses on endangerment of children and elderly through these activities' utilizing criminal and civil remedies to reduce and prevent the impact of methamphetamine production, distribution and use on neighborhoods and communities.

Child & Vulnerable Adult Endangerment/Treatment Subcommittee

The purpose of the Child & Vulnerable Adult Endangerment/Treatment Subcommittee is to address child endangerment and vulnerable adult issues associated with drug exposure. The Subcommittee works to enhance treatment services for pregnant women and women with children, reduce barriers for individuals seeking services, and provide psychosocial treatment services for dependent children.

Public Awareness and Training Subcommittee

The purpose of the Public Awareness and Training Subcommittee is to enhance community awareness of methamphetamine and other dangerous drugs.

Drug Endangered Child Medical Advisory Team (DECMAT)

The DECMAT is a multidisciplinary team that serves as a community resource for evident-based practice in the care of the drug endangered child.
