‘Beat the Heat’ now ‘Hot Pursuit’ on October 20th

October 9, 2012 — The Salt Lake City Police Department has changed its annual Beat the Heat 5K into a Hot Pursuit, which this year joins with the YWCA Week Without Violence 5K presented by the Young Lawyer Division of the Utah State Bar Saturday, October 20, 8 a.m. at Popperton Park, 11th Avenue and Virginia Street.

The course, cash and prizes remain the same — it’s just a new name, partners and charitable cause. If you are interested in running as a team, sign up in groups of four when you register online. Prizes will be awarded for the best uniforms and the lowest cumulative team time.

The Hot Pursuit 5K begins at 8 a.m., followed by a free 1K fun run for kids with Police Chief Chris Burbank at 9 a.m.

Registration costs $20. Proceeds from the race will benefit:

  • The YWCA of Salt Lake City, which is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.
  • The Salt Lake City Police Foundation, the mission of which is to support the SLCPD and improve the community through youth programs and other community outreach.

So lace up those sneakers, and join us for a good time and a good cause!
