Officer involved shooting
81 W. 300 S.

Two officers responded to investigate a suspicious vehicle at 300 S. West Temple. While interviewing the two male occupants, the passenger, Christopher Leo Knight (9/16/79), a California resident, gave misleading statements. The officers wanted to question Knight further and had him exit the vehicle. As Knight exited the vehicle, he opened fire, wounding both officers. The senior officer, a veteran of nine years, was shot in the arm. The other officer, who has worked for SLCPD for 18 months, was hit in the leg.  Both were transported to a local hospital and remain in stable condition. At least one of the officers returned fire, killing Knight. The driver was taken to the Public Safety Building and interviewed.  Investigators have determined that he was found not involved in the shooting and was released. Investigation ongoing.
