Police were called to a suspicious vehicle in the area of 500 East, 1700 South. Officers responded and located a vehicle matching the description provided. A traffic stop was conducted at 1125 S. State Street. When the driver exited the vehicle he brandished a handgun. Salvador Miranda Flores, 29, was shot twice in the torso by one of the officers.  The female passenger, Amal Hourieh, 28, was interviewed and booked on outstanding warrants, and did not receive any charges from today’s incident.  The officer who fired the shots has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.

The officers’ body camera footage will not be released until detectives are able to interview the subject, who remains in the hospital at this time.
