West Valley City Police Department detectives were in the city looking for a suspect when he fled in a vehicle. Salt Lake City Police responded to assist in locating the car. Officers located the unoccupied vehicle and K-9 deployed to track the suspect. K-9 officers located Jonathan Ivan Padilla-Lopez, 23, who was also a person of interest in a prior SLCPD homicide. Lopez was taken to the SLCPD public safety building and interviewed by homicide detectives. Officers booked Lopez for aggravated assault on a police officer.
