SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department has been awarded a $15,000 grant from the Utah Department of Public Safety’s Highway Safety Office. To meet the objectives of the grant project, the Salt Lake City Police Department will be conducting education and enforcement efforts aimed at improving safety for pedestrians and cyclists in Salt Lake City. The department will also conduct youth bicycle rodeos in the community and distribute free helmets, education material and visibility gear.

From 2013 to 2015, the DPS Highway Safety Office reported an average of 982 pedestrians and 742 cyclists involved in motor vehicle crashes per year in Utah. This grant is a great way to increase opportunities to educate the community and promote safety on and near our roadways.
