Aggravated assault
400 W. 700 N.

An unknown male approached another man and asked him for drugs. When the victim said he didn’t have any the suspect struck him in the arm with a large stick and fled. Officers located the suspect in the area of 500 West and 400 North and attempted to take him into custody. The suspect resisted and an officer deployed his Taser, which had no effect, and a foot chase ensued. Officers caught the suspect at 700 North and 400 West and took him into custody. Officers booked Deylin Medina-Arteaga, 40, into jail for aggravated assault and fleeing.

3:26 p.m.
757 W. 200 N.

A 46-year-old woman was inside her room when a stranger entered, shot her one time and stole items before fleeing. Officers arrived at the scene and administered first aid until fire personnel arrived. Other responding officers located the suspect near 800 West North Temple Street. The suspect, Luis Guerra-Perez, 31, was taken into custody without incident and the firearm was recovered. Officers booked Luis into jail for aggravated burglary and theft.
