Chief Brown statement regarding additional staffing

I, along with the command staff, am so thankful for the support of the community, the City Council, and Mayor Biskupski and her administration, in funding more staff for the Salt Lake City Police Department. We will work diligently to find the best ways to deploy those resources to serve our community.

I’ve been doing this job for the better part of three decades and I’ve never seen anything like this. We will work diligently to find the very best officers who will serve the community with the traditions and standards of this great organization.

We have consistently done more with less each year while we struggle to meet the needs of our community-supported policing model, which is not fair to the community we serve, nor the women and men who serve in sworn and non-sworn capacities. Yet every day, the women and men of SLCPD come in and do their jobs with character and commitment, they go from call to call with a positive attitude and culture of customer service.

It is because we have gone so long doing more with less that I remain humbled and grateful for the additional 50 officers and civilian staff positions. There is no doubt in my mind that this addition will be a game changer for our Department and for the City itself. We see it as a vote of confidence in our programs and initiatives that you want to help us continue to do more with the gift of adequate resources.

Mike Brown
Chief of Police
Salt Lake City Police Department
