Burglary in Progress

The complainant observed a vehicle on the property on surveillance camera and learned at least two people had entered the residence which should have been unoccupied. Officers entered the house and took two individuals into custody. Chad Lapniewski, 50, and Aleksandra Rodriguez, 31, were booked into jail for burglary and possession of illegal drugs.

Stabbing
79 S. Main St.

The victim stopped to talk to two males about religion when an argument ensued. The victim was pushed to the ground and stabbed by one of the males. The suspect fled on foot and was not located. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect is described as a Black male adult in this 30s, wearing a black hoodie with yellow writing.

Stolen Vehicle
350 E. 700 S.

An officer observed a stolen vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled, and the officer did not pursue. Officers later saw the driver fleeing the vehicle on foot and gave chase. Anthony Wilkerson, 32, was apprehended and booked into jail for possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of controlled substance, failure to stop at command of law enforcement officer.

Kidnapping

Officers responded to this address on a protective order violation. Once on scene they learned the male half had kidnapped his child from West Valley City and fled to this address. There is an active protective order against the male which protects his child and the child’s mother. SLCPD and West Valley officers responded to the residence to contact the male suspect. As officers attempted to take the male into custody he resisted. Four members of the suspect’s family intervened and pushed the officers away from the suspect, which allowed the male to flee into the house. Negotiators and SWAT were called out. Announcements were made and everyone, but the suspect and child exited the residence. Officers eventually were able to enter the residence and the suspect was taken into custody. The child was safely returned to his mother. Francisco Yanagui, 27, was booked into jail for a protective order violation, resisting arrest and kidnapping.

Shooting

Officers responded to shots fired at this address. They located two male victims who had gunshot wounds to their extremities. Shell casings were located on scene. Both victims were transported to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
