SLCPD Arrests East High School Student Who Brought Gun to School

SALT LAKE CITY — Today, School Resource Officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department recovered a gun and ammunition that was brought to East High School by a student.
This investigation started on December 17, 2021 after East High School administrators alerted SLCPD School Resource Officers about a social media post reportedly depicting an East High School student holding a gun.

Working with the Salt Lake City School District, SLCPD School Resource Officers immediately began a comprehensive investigation to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and staff at East High School.

Today, when the student arrived at the school, officers contacted the student in the office and took them into custody. During the search of the student’s backpack, officers located a handgun and ammunition.

SLCPD School Resource Officers transported the student to the Salt Lake Valley Detention Center where they will be referred to the 3rd District Juvenile Court for prosecution
