SLCPD Arrest Registered Sex Offender on New Allegations of Sexual Assault

SALT LAKE CITY — Detectives assigned to the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Special Victims Unit have arrested a 57-year-old registered sex offender on allegations that he sexually assaulted a woman.

This investigation started at approximately 7:20 a.m. on January 16, 2022, when Salt Lake City Police officers responded to investigate a sexual assault in the 2300-block of West North Temple.
Officers responded and began an investigation which resulted in detectives assigned to the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Special Victims Unit responding to the scene.

The victim and suspect are not related and were not in a relationship.

Paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital for a sexual assault forensic examination.

Based on the investigation, detectives booked Gregory Bane into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail one count of forcible sodomy and two counts of forcible sexual abuse.

The Salt Lake City Police Department ensures survivors of sexual assault receive support and victim advocacy and are kept informed about the criminal justice process at all stages.

The department’s Special Victims Unit is comprised of detectives who have specialized training in investigating sexual assaults and are deeply familiar with victim advocacy and the medical and legal issues involved with these cases.
