SLCPD Investigating Aggravated Burglary, SWAT Team Responding

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department’s SWAT Team is on scene of a tactical incident in the 500-block of North Dexter Street and is asking the community to temporarily avoid the area.

This investigation started at 3:24 a.m. on Saturday October 15, 2022, when SLC911 took a call from someone who reported hearing at least one gunshot being fired.

SLCPD police officers quickly responded and set-up a large perimeter around the area and started checking for any suspects or victims.

At this time, officers have not found any victims and there have been no reports that anyone is hurt.

One suspect is in custody.

Officers believe there is at least one other suspect inside the apartment who is refusing to come out.

The officers on scene have used a public address system to try and communicate with the suspect. Those efforts continue.

Because of the tactical nature of this incident, SLCPD has closed North Dexter Street in between 500 North and 600 North.

The community is kindly asked to avoid using 600 North in between 800 West and 1000 West to allow for emergency responders to have more room to work.

Media staging for this incident is at the northeast corner of 600 North at 800 West. Media should approach the staging location on 800 West by driving north from 500 North or driving south from 700 North.

Currently, an SLCPD Public Information Officer (PIO) is not responding to the scene. Updates will be provided on the department’s Twitter account when appropriate to the investigation.

Currently, no photos from the scene are available.

No further information on this case is being released. Neither the PIO nor the On-Duty Watch Commander are available for interviews.
