SLCPD Reminds Community Members of Safety Tips Ahead of Holiday Season

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department is providing community members safety tips to help ensure the holiday season isn’t ruined by any porch pirates or criminal activity.

Salt Lake City traditionally sees an increase of people coming into downtown and city’s entertainment districts to celebrate the holiday season between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day.

·       If you must store anything valuable in your car, keep it secured in the trunk or out of sight. If possible, check with the store and see if they can hold onto your bags until all your shopping is finished.

Some community members may choose to shop online.

·       When shopping online, consider having your packages delivered to a store or secure pick-up location. Otherwise, make sure you or someone else you know, and trust, is available during the delivery time.

Doorbell cameras and security systems are great – but as seen across the country, they don’t stop porch pirates.

·       During the holiday season, some people may choose to make charitable donations. Before doing so, make sure you are making donations to trusted and verified charitable organizations.

As a reminder, if something seems too good to be true, it probably is.

The women and men of the Salt Lake City Police Department will be out, as always, helping to ensure the community is safe for everyone who lives, works, and visits the city during the holiday season.

If you see something, say something – call the non-emergency number at 801-799-3000 or for an in-progress emergency dial 9-1-1.
